Shockey to New Orleans
Some big news coming out of the NFL on Monday. Tight end Jeremy Shockey was traded to the New Orleans Saints. In exchange for the four-time pro bowler the Giants will receive a 2nd and 5th round pick in next year's draft. The out-spoken Shockey, who missed much of New York's Super Bowl run last season because of an injury, had openly criticized the Giants regarding his roll in the offense. Shockey had 371 career catches, and scored 27 touchdowns in his six years with Giants.
Urlacher Extends Time with Bears
In other NFL news the Chicago Bears have agreed to a contract extension with linebacker Brian Urlacher. According to published reports the six-time pro bowler will receive an additional 18-million dollars, including a six-million dollar signing bonus, over the next four seasons with the Bears. Urlacher has racked up 15 interceptions and 37 and-a-half sacks in his eight years in Chicago.
RedHawks to Salt Lake
The Oklahoma RedHawks lost 6-1 to Memphis at the Brick on Monday. The Hawks now begin their series at Salt Lake. Their first game against the Bees is in about 30 minutes.
Play of the Day
Top 9th, 6-3 Pirates... With two men on, Freddy Sanchez drives the Tim Bbyrdak pitch to deep right. The ball takes a funny bounce off the base of the wall and gets away from Hunter Pence. Sanchez never stops running and circles the bases for the three-run, inside-the-park home run. Sanchez's nice hustle comes away with our play of the day.
