At about 2:30 Thursday afternoon, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department received a call about a shooting near Northeast 23rd and Air Depot.
Officials say a property owner saw an individual trying to break into one of his properties. The property owner confronted the suspect. Authorities say the suspect then got into his vehicle and attempted to drive away. They say the property owner stepped in front of the car, and the suspect moved his car forward toward the individual.
Officials say that's when the property owner fired his shotgun once. The shot went through the car windshield and struck the suspect in the upper body. The suspect was taken to a Midwest City Hospital where officials say the suspect was declared dead about half an hour later.
Authorities say several burglaries and attempted burglaries have occurred in the area recently. Authorities identified the suspect's vehicle as a vehicle involved in a Monday larceny at a trailer park next door.
Officials say the property owner and a neighbor, who was a witness, were taken in for questioning.
No names are being released at this time.
