Is Springer the man for the job?
Springer

Karl Springer may be a new face to the Oklahoma City Public School system but around the Mustang School District he's no stranger. Mustang School Board President Jeff Johnson says it was something on Springer's resume that made him stand out from the rest.

"It's that i love coming to work everyday  through the eight years, I'd ask him from time to time, do you still love coming to work? absolutely- he loves coming to work everyday, and he has the passion," said Johnson.

Johnson says that passion made Springer a hands-on superintendent, he would even serve as a substitute teacher at least once a week.

"He'll be a sub for a teacher in the classroom and spend time with the class. Sometimes your at a 30 foot elevation and it's nice to get down in the trenches and be part of the education system," said Johnson.

So now Springer will leave Mustang behind and start his new job in Oklahoma City but the hard work is far from over because Oklahoma City schools are facing some major problems.

"It's an extremely difficult job, we have 40,000 children and there are problems at every school, all 80 schools. Each school is a community and each school has problems," said Wilfredo Rivera, School Board member.

Even though Rivera abstained from the vote for Springer, he says the new superintendent has his full support now.

"I think he'll get the job done but he needs everyone's help," said Rivera.
