Cotton County authorities shot and killed a man after they say he opened fire on them.

Cotton County Sheriff's office officials say 31-year-old Kelly Valdez of Walters was fatally shot at about 4:30 Monday afternoon near the outskirts of Temple.

Authorities say Valdez was wanted for questioning in connection with a burglary on tribal land in Cotton County. Officials say officers from five law enforcement agencies were looking for Valdez when he was spotted by a Cotton County deputy.

Authorities say Valdez began shooting at officers before they returned fire.
