Police Search for Missing After Crash

May 14, 2008; Posted 3.15 pm (CDT)

Early Wednesday morning a passing motorist noticed a vehicle crashed into a tree by S Overholser Drive. A look inside showed the passenger dead and no one in the driver's seat.

"It was pretty tore up," says Charrolet Warnock, who lives near where the scene took place. "We just heard a real bang, a loud bang about three or four this morning. We didn't think anything was going on until I got up at five this morning and the helicopter was flying everywhere. I got up and looked out my back door, and I could see police everywhere."

"Apparently the passenger in this vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene," says Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Paco Balderrama.

Police say there should have been two individuals in the car, but they only found one.

"What officers believe at this point in time is the driver of the vehicle, who was also involved with the wreck, after the wreck left the victim there and simply walked off," says Balderrama.

Police conducted a foot, canine and helicopter search of the area with no luck, so they began checking hospitals and relevant homes as well.

"Obviously we need all his info so we can do a proper investigation to what the cause of the accident was," says Balderrama.

Warnock says she may have heard the car shortly before the accident.

"We heard a car pull up out front and it just sit there a minute, and then it went from one driveway to the next driveway," says Warnock. "It left and shortly after that is when we heard the bang, so we don't know if it's the same car or a different car."

Officials are hoping to locate the driver of the car to find out exactly what happened. They fear the person could be injured because of the accident. Right now the passenger's name has not been released.

Police are asking anyone with any information on this car crash to call 911.
