Storm Damage

Thursday, May 8, 2008; Posted: 4:37 p.m. (CDT)

Connie Garrick came home to find a tree had slammed into the roof of her apartment complex.  It had her thinking the worst.

Garrick says, "When we pulled in last night, we were like oh boy it's not good."

She was especially worried about her cat.

"We quickly got upstairs and when we walked inside there was no damage," says Garrick.

No damage to her apartment but her neighbor's had sustained heavy damage.

Garrick says, "We got lucky!"

Three buildings at Willow Cliff Lakeshore Apartments in Warr Acres have massive damage.  The manager of the complex tells KSBI-TV that 16 families are in the process of being relocated to new homes.

Crews have been on site working hard to get everything back to normal.  But they've been swamped with work.

Cody English is with English Tree Service.  He says, "It's just hard to take care of our regular customers when we have so many new customers."

There was also more damage just down the street.  A home in the 4800 block of Ann Arbor Avenue in Warr Acres had tree limbs scattered all over the front yard.  The storm also left the homeowner with a broken windshield to her vehicle.

It's damage that's costing some people and businesses big bucks to clean up.

"I just put my trust in God and go but we were lucky the Lord was good to us, says Garrick.  "We feel blessed, very blessed."

The manager of Willow Cliff also says insurance adjustors are in the process of assessing the damage.  They don't have an estimate of how much it will cost.
