Man Who Threatened Schools Charged

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 Posted: 10:54 a.m. (CDT)

Authorities say an Anadarko man who threatened schools in Chickasha and Lawton attended school where another student killed seven people and himself nearly three years ago.

Joshua James Hunter is charged in Caddo County with committing a terrorist hoax and threatening to perform an act of violence. He is also charged with arson in the third degree, on a separate account.

Investigators say Hunter threatened to shoot students and detonate chemical bombs in Lawton and Chickasha last week. Both districts were placed on lock down after Anadarko police reported the threats.

Authorities say Hunter planned for friends to release chemical bombs and randomly shoot students at Eisenhower High School in Lawton and Chickasha High School.

Police say he told a woman in Anadarko of his plans and she reported them to the police.

Hunter was a student at Red Lake High School in Minnesota when a fellow student, Jeffrey Weise, shot and killed a teacher, a security guard and five students. Weise wounded seven others before taking his own life.
