Fallen Soldier:Family Reflects on Son's Life and Prep for Peace Rally

Friday October 26, 2007; Posted at 2:50 pm (CDT)

The parents of fallen marine Bryan Scripsick talked for the first time since their son's death.  They are also speaking at a rally on Saturday against the war in hopes no other families will lose a loved one.

Bryan Scripsick was known to his fellow marines as Hollywood because he was always posing for pictures.  His parents, John and Jan, remember him for so many other reasons.

"I remember a life time of growing up is what I remember," said his father John.

Bryan left back in March for his second deployment, but overseas he still managed to find time for fun.  He made a baseball bat and would often play with the mit and balls his parents sent him.  He also found a furry friend.

"He called home one time and said he found a dog that he adopted," said John.

That phone call like so many others were usually in high spirits, but there was something different about when Bryan called this past August.

"It was on his birthday, the 21st, and he sounded really tired," said his mom Jan.

That was the last phone call from Bryan his parents would get.  Sixteen days later he was killed by a suicide bomber.  He was only 22.  He was killed along with his two best friends in the troop.

Although, John and Jan always thought Bryan would come home.

"I believed he was gonna be safe, I mean I thought he was gonna return home," said Jan.

Now Bryan and so many other soldiers are in a different home, leaving many parents wanting to spread a simple message.

"We want the troops home," said the Scripsicks.

The Scripsicks will be at the rally for peace Saturday.  The rally hosted by the United for Peace and Justice is on the northeast corner of North Meridian and the Northwest Expressway from 11 to 12:30pm. The rally is going to be held with 10 other rallys around the region.  People are encouraged to bring signs, drums, lawn chair and of course their voice.
