The number one Chieftains prevailed over the defending champions to win the Class 6A state girls basketball championship.

Sapulpa beat number two-ranked Mustang, Saturday at the Lloyd Noble Center.

This was the Chieftains' fourth state championship and first since 1998 and coach Darlean Calip got her third championship. 

They succeeded against the Lady Broncos with a score of 44-34.
