David Combs, his wife, Sherry, and her daughter Kasey Westerman all walked the walk to accept their diplomas - on the same day.
David says, "It was very surreal. It almost seemed like it was something made up in a movie. It's like I was watching it through someone else's eyes."
They all graduated from Seminole State College with associate's degrees.
Kasey says, "It's really neat. None of us planned to graduate together, it just happened all at once."
"Just seeing my daughter graduate was something I'd always dreamed of. I'm just really proud of both of them," says Sherry.
It's also a very proud moment and an emotional experience for David. He's the first in his family to ever earn a degree.
David says, "I went back to college because my dad has passed away and that's one thing he wanted."
His father only finished the fourth grade.
"The thing was I just didn't quit. I graduated school because I just didn't quit," says David.
This Shawnee family hopes to share that message with others.
David says, "Never give up! You're never too old."
Kasey and David now plan to get their bachelor's degrees.
