Oklahoma City like many areas in our state is a great place to get away. The Fraley family is visiting from Amarillo, Texas.
Cynthia Fraley, a visitor, says, "We've done good this year."
She's referring to the cost of the trip. Their vacation has been cheaper since they typically have with them five kids instead of one.
Cassie Fraley, the family's 9-year-old daughter, says, "It's fun!"
But what's not fun, figuring out the cost of vacations. Triple A reports vacations costs in Oklahoma will average $211/day. It's up just a bit from 2006 which was $200/day. It's a figure for a family of four and that only includes eating and hotel expenses.
Chuck Mai, Vice-President of Public Affairs for Triple A of Oklahoma, says, "The hotels and motels being built in Oklahoma right now are higher end."
Don't forget to add gas into your equation.
"Motorists need to be aware that gas prices right now are 50-cents more," says Mai.
To cut down on costs, stay a step ahead.
Mai says, "Plan it so you're going through major cities at non-rush hour times, have your major meal at lunch instead of for dinner and don't hit town and start looking for a motel. You may wind up paying top dollar for that motel."
Simple things to make your vacation worth every penny. There's only one thing you can't plan for ahead of time.
Fraley says, "Our vacation has been okay except for the weather. The weather didn't participate with us."
