About KSBI-DT
KSBI-DT, the New ThunderTV
The KSBI Television Network is owned and operated by Family Broadcasting Group, Inc., an Oklahoma-based company founded by Brady M. Brus.
KSBI-DT began operation October 3, 1988 under the direction of founder, Don J. Locke, owner of Locke Supply Co. During the period of 1988 through July, 21 2003, KSBI was run purely as a ministry, with no commercial goals. Mr. Locke passed away in February of 2000, and in April 2001 the Board of Directors of Locke Supply Co. was approached by various Oklahoma and national broadcast entities with the desire to purchase the statewide network. The decision was ultimately made to sell the KSBI Television Network to enable Locke Supply to focus their time and resources solely on the profitable Locke Supply, Co. Mr. Locke had founded over three decades ago.
With the direction left by Mr. Locke, it was the desire of the Board that the future owners of KSBI-DT would work with integrity and honor in the community.
Locke Supply, Co. chose to sell the KSBI television network to Family Broadcasting Group, Inc. The sale of the network was finalized in March 2004. Family Broadcasting Group is headed by Founder and President, Brady M. Brus. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, College of Geosciences, Brady spent nearly a decade at the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City. His desire to serve the state of Oklahoma with quality family-friendly programming has translated into his current role as President of Family Broadcasting Group, Inc. Upon leaving the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City in early 2001, Brady formed FBG, Inc. and eventually purchased the KSBI Television Network. A highly sought after commodity, KSBI-DT reaches nearly the entire state of Oklahoma. In addition to the three-million-watt over-the-air signal, and one-million-watt digital signal, KSBI is carried on Dish Network, DirecTV, Cox Cable, Cable One, Pioneer Cable, Allegiance, Suddenlink, AT&T and many other cable providers across the state. KSBI also has 12 translator sites across Oklahoma, which enable viewers to tune in all the way from Tulsa to Elk City, and from Ponca City to Lake Texoma. Among many firsts, KSBI-DT is the first station in the market to have remote cameras positioned across the state of Oklahoma. The KSBI StateCam Network is growing each day, and viewers across the world are accessing the on-line pictures and video.
Family Broadcasting Group, Inc, also owns and operates KXOC-TV Channel 41 - operated out of the main KSBI studios in Oklahoma City.
Most recently, in 2009, during retransmission negotiations, KSBI was added to tens of thousands of additional households in the Tulsa DMA on DIRECTV’s lineup. KSBI is the only Oklahoma City station reaching a total of five designated market areas, and is the only Oklahoma City station with translators, cable coverage, and satellite carriage in the Tulsa market.
Family Broadcasting Group, Inc. took over operations in March 2004. Since that time, FBG has been repositioning KSBI-DT in the marketplace as Oklahoma’s Family Station. With the implementation of new family-friendly syndicated programming, local and national sporting events, local and national news and information programs, 24-hour-a-day weather coverage, and various other locally produced programs, FBG has seen a tremendous response from the viewers and advertisers. In addition to leading the way in LIVE local high school sports over the past four years and utilizing the station’s 40-foot state of the art production truck, during the summer of 2008, Family Broadcasting Group, Inc. signed a long term deal with the new Oklahoma City NBA Franchise The Oklahoma City Thunder. KSBI is now being repositioned as “ThunderTV”, with exclusive preseason and regular season game coverage, special Thunder programming and an exclusive marketing relationship with the NBA team.
KSBI-DT made the decision to continue to broadcast both their analog AND digital signal on February 17, 2009. This enabled viewers who were not prepared for the transition during the spring severe weather season to continue to receive life-saving information through the severe weather season until the new transition date for “digital only” in June 2009.
Other stations in the OKC market made documented commitments to turn their analog off on February 17th, but KSBI’s decision to continue their analog coverage led the way to alter the plans of at least three network affiliates.
Family Broadcasting Group, Inc. has completed the building of their new state-of-the-art facility at the most highly visible location in the market. It is estimated by the Oklahoma Highway patrol that nearly 20,000 vehicles pass by the new facility each day.
The new facility will be occupied within the next two months, with a new state of the art set, control room, and even a workout room for the staff.
Families across the state of Oklahoma can feel safe watching KSBI/ThunderTV programming at all times. Likewise, local and national advertisers can be confident that their product is being promoted on a station which not only works with integrity and character, but also reaches more locations across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas than any other commercial television station in the State.
